The community's rule of thumb — units ≈ reviews × a multiplier — is real, but the multiplier is a range that depends on the game's era: roughly ×33 for 2020s releases, ×45 for 2016–2019, ×60 before that, and the honest uncertainty around any single game runs ×0.4 to ×2.2 of the midpoint. That's the same model behind every estimate on GameTrend (methodology, version v1.0) — shown here with its error bars on.
